Feedback on TW Acustic turntables from Germany?

Chris Martens -- Tue, 03/07/2006 - 18:40

At last year's Rocky Mountain Audio Fest, one of the turntables that caught my attention was the TW Acustic Raven (or perhaps it was the Raven AC?).

Since trade show impressions are always too brief and involve variables one can't control, I wanted to ask if any forum participants could offer feedback on the TW Acustic tables.

Strengths? Weaknesses? Recommendations? Alternatives? Raven vs. Raven AC? Etc., etc.

I'm all ears...

Chris,

I own a Raven AC w. a few arms. I used to own a Nottingham hyperspace before. The ease of use and setup are second to none. Speed stability is rock solid. Bass is excellent. Everything is tunefull w. no artificial colorations. My simplist description would be to suggest it lets the sound of the cartridge / arm shine through. I have for comparison an EMM setup. I alway compare the two formats to know who is "winning". The the Hyperspace the EMM on SACD was very close. The TW Acustic is currently a step above. I have never listened to the likes of Rockports etc, but feel it should be considered in the super table class in some ways.

I stongly suggest the Copper version. With the copper you can place the record directly on the platter with excellent results. You can add a mat (I have tried many & the Living Voice mystic is my choice) but most mats will negatively impact the sound compared to the platter.

Be prepared to drive yourself crazy with multiple arms & cartridges down the road. It brings a whole new life to audio.
