Dynaudio S1.4 or Proac Studio 140

I am looking for upgrading my old speaker to either dynaudio S1.4 or Proac Studio 140. My electronics are krell 400xi and Primare cd31. I listen to Jazz, classical music. I will appreciate if anyone can provide me some advices/opinion about the above matching.

hello,
i own the dyn s1.4 and am very happy with it. it plays everything i throw with it splendidly fine. if you feel you need more bass, you can add a sub later. with your gears, it would also drive it perfectly fine. good luck!

Both are good speakers and both have their limitations.

The ProAcs are 'sweet', the Dynaudios are 'accurate'. By that, I mean the ProAcs have a deep bass for the cabinet size, an open midband and an even, smooth treble. The bass isn't particularly fast and the treble is not bright. By way of contrast, the Dynaudios have a lighter but faster bass, very clean, extended treble and a studio-like midrange. Both are good in a wide range of rooms, although the Dynaudios are best used away from walls and the down-firing port of the ProAc makes it fine close to walls too.

Given your equipment and tastes in music, I would tend toward the Studio 140, but not by a large margin.

Hi Ted,
it´s one of the eldest topics: upgrading the speakers.
But why don´t we talk about "upgrading the room" first?
From my two decades experience in recording, mixing and mastering music as a sound engineer, and already some years as an acoustic consultant, I can assure you, that your room makes approx. 50% of the sound quality of the speakers - if you´re in a rehearsal room of a recording studio, the influence of the room to the speaker´s sound is almost zero (or should be).
To add some absorbers and/or bass traps to your listening room is more efficient to raise the over-all sound quality and, by the way, in most cases, much cheaper than a new pair of speakers.
If you need some suggestions, get back to me...

I have been using the Studio 140 for a year now in a 200 sq ft room.  Like Alan said, sweet sounding but a little slow in bass.  Works well for me for all kinds of music.  Great value.
