I have 2 downfiring subwoofers in my 7.1 system. I am curious to know if i am loosing some sound quality or output volume because i have the woofers setting on carpeting. The carpeting is a short nap setting on 1/2 inch padding on a concrete floor in my basement. The subs produce plenty of ground shaking bass, but i'm wondering if i set the subs on flat sheets of wood would i gain anything? I would appreciate any input anyone has on the subject. Thanks, mr.z
Almost all of the sound absorption of carpeting is at much higher frequencies than you should be operating your sub at. Since your subs were designed for this situation, you should have no problem. Placement can, of course, be fine tuned -- along with level, crossover and phase.
