The Dolby site reminds me that True HD offers up to 7.1 channels of losslessly compressed audio. But Dolby offers no listing of software with this audio capability. Is there any software yet?
The only title with Dolby TrueHD is Phantom of the Opera on HD DVD. Unfortunately, the Toshiba HD DVD player will decode TrueHD only in two-channel mode. That's a huge bit-rate to decode (up to 18Mbps, compared with 384kbps from Dolby Digital).
Concert discs in high-def and Dolby TrueHD will be the "killer ap" for the new disc formats. I've seen a demo at CES and it's a world apart from standard-def video and 384kbps conventional Dolby Digital.
