Digital media player and amplifier compatibility

-- Sun, 08/23/2009 - 23:19

I own a marantz a/v receiver, connected to definitive technology procinema series speakers. I also have a pair of floor standing Wharfedale speakers. Recently I purchased a WD TV HD media player. The player is connected to the amplifier through an optical cable. I have observed that the sound quality is too sharp , almost metallic.
Can anybody please tell me why is it so, and how can it be corrected? Thanking you in advance.

What sample rates are your digital files?

If you're using MP3 files at anything less than 320 BPS that may be your problem.

For better sound use lossless such as WAV or AIFF files at 44.1/16 bits.

Thank you Steven. I am using MP3 files 128 Kbps. I suppose that is the problem.
