Dialogue with some shows is difficult to understand

Yes, we are getting older and hearing is not the best.
I've neveer been happy with the dialong sound from my system (Ymaha).  My question is, what can I do to set the speakers for best balance between music,effects,dialogue? One of te worst shows is Law & Order CI where they run the background music way up (for drama) and the dialong gets lost in the mix.

 What you need is a pre/pro or A/V receiver that has a TV mode.
 
This mode usually boosts the center channel by 3 dB.
