Has anyone heard the combination of Magico and Devaliet, together? :)
Is there a better combination to be had, technically, or usefully...?
from my limited exposure to both tastes ( not combined) i'd say this would be a highly analytical and extremely neutral presentation. my concern would be long-term listener fatigue... your frontend better be erring to some measure of warmth
What do you think about the combination of B&W 802 diamonds and the same Devaliet? Do you imagine the same listener fatigue? I listended to a B&W 802 diamond and all-Classe system (600W/channel), and found the sound quite grainy. The 802's did pump out a good good amount of synthesized bass. I could hear the benefit of upsampling on the Classe CDP, but it was not much in the way of resolution, or anything approaching the warmth or roundness of tubes.
I've heard OK sound with Wilson Sophia or Sasha W/P with NAIM electronics, but there was definately quite a lot of low-level distorion present, without much in the way of resolution and lower-level detail. I've heard OK sound with top-level Ayre electronics and Vienna Acoustics Klimpkt speakers, but terrible bass response (not enough cabinet volume, perhaps), and I believe disortion on account of the wide-bander they have.
Does anyone else have thoughts to chime in? (Here's one review: http://www.hifinews.co.uk/news/article.asp?a=7605)
I'm pumped to finally listen to the Magnepan 3.7's with top-flight electronics, and will give my impresions. Also will try to hear the Revel Studio 2's and Salon 2's, but on the spec-sheet they really seem to lack low-frequencies, and need a sub.
the maggies bass might be your only complaint... however, i believe Dehavilet & carl's high-resolution speakers might indeed be a heavenly-match on earth. seems like the moment before the purchase has arrived my friend... very little sleep - excited listening trips , etc... Love this hobby.
I've got Simaudio Moon Evolution (650d, p-7,w-8) paired with revel Studio 2's and the combo sounds great. Warmth and detail. The studio 2's play as low as the 802d's but don't have the same mid- bass emphasis and they don't dig as low as the Wilsons but the Studio 2's are not at all bass shy. However, if you are really into deep, huge bass you may want to try the Salon 2's instead of the Studio 2's.
