Denon - What is the difference

onekuex -- Tue, 08/15/2006 - 20:03

What is the difference between Denon's AVR-2106 and AVR-886S (besides color)? I look at the specs and they are nearly identical. When I look for reviews for the 886 they are non-existent, but reviews for the 2106 are prevalent. Do they use the same components/parts/quality or are they different? Why does Denon offer 2 lines of almost the exact same thing... The AVR-xxx and the AVR-xxxx?

I don't know if this is the case with Denon, but manufacturers sometimes build two slightly different products (differentiated by a faceplate or color) with different model numbers for two different distribution channels.

That was kind of what I was thinking. From your experience with other brands was there any difference in the quality of the product?

Thanks for your help.

Sometimes manufacturers will cut corners in a product that is sold through different distribution channels, and other times they simply make the same product with a different colored faceplate and give it a new model number. Check the weight of the two units; if they are identical, the products are probably identical.
