Does it pay to upgrade original casablanca or buy a Denon 4806 cost about the same but the Denon has more up to date features. The one feature is the video up conversion,Denon tech Dept told me the one in the 4806 is better than the one in 5805. I use my system mostly for movies and T V. What do you think Thank you Tom
Can you outline why you want video upconversion?
Thanks.
Thomas:
Deciding whether to upgrade the original Casablanca or buy a new AVR depends on whether you place a higher premium on sound quality or the latest features (and simplicity of operation). The Denon is a terrific-sounding AVR, but it's not a Theta Casablanca.
Robert Harley
I concur with Robert Harley's comment that the 4806, while a superb AVR, is no Casablanca.
However, the 4806 does offer one advantage I believe the Casablanca does not; namely, built-in MultiEQ speaker setup/room EQ processing from Audyssey Labs.
Audyssey's MultiEQ system is much different from any other automated speaker setup/room EQ system I know of in that it gathers and integrates data from multiple listening locations (not just from one sweet spot), and then applies fuzzy logic techniques to calculate individual EQ settings and setup parameters for each speaker in the system. The result: Unusually well-balanced sound throughout most of the room--not just in one location.
Depending on your tastes and preferences, you might find this "every seat = a good seat" feature compelling.
Watch for Neil Gader's review of the Denon AVR-3806 (also MultiEQ-equipped) in the upcoming TPV 68.
