decoder

Hi. Looking for a device to decode newer sound formats form my cable box HDMI to 5.1 that my current sound system (Macs/B&W's) is set up for. Anyone know of such a decoder taht is not a AVR? Or does anyone know of an inexpensive AVR with line level pass throughs?

Is it even possible to get the new codecs through cable? I thought that you only got those from Blu-Ray disc. The best I get from my cable box via hdmi is Dolby 5.1. I run all of my sources through a Pioneer VSX1018AH-k.
