Connecting 2 Subs to a 7.1 Reciever

What's the best way to connect two (or more) subs to a reciever that has only one SUB out put?
     1.  A "Y-connector"
                 or
     2.   Run one cable to the sub that also has a phono plug output, and then another cable from that sub to the other sub.
Or does it really matter? (yeah, I said it)

The deciding factor will be ergonomics, not sonic differences, as there will be none.

Which method  will require less interconnect in your system?

Choose that because it will cost less and waste fewer of your valuable resources.
