I am a current subscriber to both The Perfect Vision and Absolute Sound
I am interested in purchasing a DVD Player -- and have McIntosh components ( C-33 preamp, MC 2205 Amp).
My 30" Flat Sceen LCD TV purchased a year ago is a Mitsubishi HD TV model LT-3050.
The TV has a DVI input; no HDMI
It is a terrific set !
Question-- what does one do when one is in the market for a DVD Player knowing that the industry is about to do battle with the two new formats: BluRay and HD DVD ???
I am looking at a few models as follows:
Pioneer Elite DV-79AVi
DENON 2910
Marantz models DV 9600, DV 9500, DV 7600 and DV 6600. ( saw some as demos as well as new )
Or do I just go for an el cheapo product at a mass market retailer and bide time ??
I would also like to have sent to me your Review of the DENON 2910 which apeared in Issue 60 ( do not have on hand )...
and any other DVD Player reviews that may be available in the models noted above. Or, if not available -- I would appreciate your thoughts and comments.
Any suggestions that you can provide would certainly be a blessing ; not being a youngster any more so I do not wish to make an error both in judgement and subsequent purchase.
Have you tried downloading DVD player reviews from AVGuide?

Keep in mind that it will be quite some time before a significant library of films becomes available in either HD DVD or Blu-ray. With the impending format war, it is possible that there will never be a library of films in the "losing" format.
In my view, it still makes sense to buy a quality DVD player to enjoy the vast amount of content available in that format.
The DVD player Buyer's Guide Plus in The Perfect Vision Issue 67 is a good resource for choosing a player.
