Cheap Plasmas

Jim Hannon -- Sat, 11/26/2005 - 03:46

Many of the inexpensive plasmas I have seen leave a lot to be desired in terms of picture quality, freedom from noise and artifacts, etc.

How much does one have to spend on a plasma to get a very good picture? (For example, is there anyone offering Fujitsu-quality images and motion tracking for less?)

Thanks for your help!

It seems to me that the $2000-2500 range is where you need to be for a 42" set. Of course if you can handle a little more depth some of the LCD and DLP RPTVs look quite nice for only a bit over $1000.

I purchased a 50" Vizio plasma for $2499 at Costco.

The picture quality in hi-def is stunning, as is the light output and the viewing angle. Watching football is amazing (Too bad the 49ers were so bad this year).

Regular TV is merely OK. I admit that with this set, if it's not in HD or on DVD, I tend not to watch.

Had some problems with noisy fans but a technician came out and replaced them.
