With a Rega P5 turntable how far can you go with cartridge upgrades before you should consider changing the turntable - current cartridge is a Sumiko BPS Evo 3. Considered options: Dyna 20XH, Benz Micro Ace, Sumiko Blackbird, Lyra Dorian.
Also I am using a Kerry Audio F2- titanium counter wt. This positive change over the stock wt. still astounds me when I listen. At $130 it has to be a must upgrade.
I had a P5 for a while. I ran a Benz Glider in mine. I probably wouldn't spend much more than that on a cartridge for a P5. I would recommend the TT power supply, though, as the best upgrade for this table. I tried a whole lot of tweaks for my P5 and found the TT to be the only 'real' upgrade I would tell you was worth the money. After a while I just got a better 'table.
I have a p5 with a rega elys 2 cartridge, PSU power supply upgrade, the new white rega belt upgrade, new felt mat, replaced cartridge clips with cardas rodhium plated version.
it is a fine unit but honestly listening to new project genie 1.3 turntable with sumiko pearl gold cartridge I feel better transaparency, better dinamics, deeper soundstage and I blame the interconnects that cames with rega p5.
I own a rega p5 with rega elysII and PPSU power supply, but I did the following upgrades:
-Rewiring internally the tonearm rb700 with cardas cables with external box.
- Install the rega white belt
- installed the counterweight made by JA mitchell for improve the tonearm
- Put 4 Nordost spikes the latest version
-Installed the ceramic ball inside turntable center hole with special liquid
That makes a huge improvement on this turntable and specially timing and dinamics.
I have a Benz Ruby 3H on a Rega P9 that does it for me. This is the best my system has ever played.

Oh , I also use a ring mat that is a clear upgrade over the felt mat.
