MGM HD broadcast "Casino Royale" last night in 1080i. I hadn't seen it in years, and since I had already watched the Tour de France for the day I figured, "What the heck?"
It was much better than I remembered. Of course you have to get past the fact that it is one of the silliest movies ever made and has the narrative cohesion of 3-in-1 oil.
The scenes in Mata Hari's school for spies were my favorites. I love the visual nod to "The Cabinet of Dr Caligari" with the wacky German expressionist set.
There are so many fine actors doing what they do so well - Woody Allan, David Niven, Peter Sellers, and George Raft "I just shot myself..."
The quality of the film transfer on MGM HD also contributed the movie....if it comes around again on MGM HD I encourage you to see it.
