Cary vs. Ayre

bwright -- Wed, 08/05/2009 - 03:30

I've read a number of reviews on the Cary CD 303/300, the Ayre CX-7e, the Sony SCD-XA5400ES and the Bryston BCD-1.
Unfortunately, I have only heard the Ayre (without the MP upgrade), which was a bit forward but astounding in its detail and vocal realism. The other three examples aren't easily found in my area.
Can anyone provide a few brief words on the sonic differences between these players, and if anyone has heard/reviewed them, what would be your preference?
Many thanks,
Bill

I have found that CD-only players are better for that format. The Bryston is an excellent choice.

Apparently, CD should be picked-up (then driven) in multiples of its own sampling rate. This, along with the DAC optimized for the format - to realize its true potential. I'd go Bryston because there are so many more CDs than SACDs and CD really is the best-sounding consumer format right now......
