Cambridge Audio Woes

EasyBigFella -- Tue, 09/04/2007 - 20:09

Hello folks,

This summer I purchased a Cambridge Audio 640C V.2 cd player used for about $200. I brought it home only to discover that the transport was broken. Luckily it was under warranty, so after a few weeks I got it back, fired it up, and was blown away by how good it sounded. I was so happy with the improvement in sound that I temporarily shook off the upgrade bug. Unfortunately, a couple of weeks ago the "Navigator" remote started to malfunction. It has fresh batteries, but the CD player no longer seems to respond to it (it responds rarely and very randomly). The "Amp Control" light turns on when I press the button, so I know it's got juice.

It seems a bit fishy that two things have gone wrong with the player in such a short amount of time. Does Cambridge Audio have problems with quality control? The player looks great, and it obviously has fine circuitry, but they do outsource to China and I'm wondering if there are known problems with Cambridge in terms of reliability.
