Hi all,
I have just bought a new Panasonic 42" plasma and I want to buy a blu ray player.  My question is, if I connect the blu ray player direct to the TV via HDMI input, will I be able to get multi channel 5.1 sound to my older (no HDMI) existing LG DVD combi/home theatre unit through the AV component out leads from the TV?
Many thanks,
Mark

Yes. Just run a coaxial or TosLink digital cable from the BD player to your LG home-theater unit. This will allow you to hear the Dolby Digital or DTS soundtrack, but not the new Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD soundtracks. For that, you'll need an audio/video receiver with HDMI inputs and the ability to decode these new high-res formats.
