Blacking Out CD's-Question For Robert Harley

Terrorform -- Wed, 02/17/2010 - 07:02

 Dear Mr. Harley,
A few Months back I stumbled  across Peter Belt's Web page and tried out the technique on freezing CD's. It worked and again from a scientific perspective, freezing for only three hours, rapidly de-frosting then repeating the technique. While searching i stumbled across your stereophile article and agree with Ed Meitner's explanations of the phenomena (and not Mr. Belt's.) Ed Meitner also mentioned blacking out the label side or bars or something? i would like to know what you know about this and how i can go about trying it out for myself.

Thank you.

It was quite some time ago (nearly 20 years), but from my recollection, Ed Meitner suggested that coating the label side of a CD with a thin black film or ink would improve the sound quality.

Thank you Mr. Harley, but did he mention any specific way of doing it? I know I'm asking much so don't worry if you don't remember! Also putting putting me into contact with someone who did know would be appreciated, though again don't fret.

I don't remember the specific technique, unfortunately.
