What are considered to be the best, most musical, mid-priced CD transports (say $1K to $2K)?
I didn't think the difference between transports with my Musical Fidelity TriVista DAC 21 would be that noticeable (since it reclocks the signal) but I was wrong.
Hi,
What CD transports have you tried ?
Hi,
I've only tried CD/DVD players as transports.
These include the Cambridge Audio Azur 540D, the JVC XV-SA600, and the NAD C542.
Jim,
This response falls under the "informed hunch" category, but I think one new CD player that will turn out to be an excellent transport is the new Rega Apollo.
Why? Mostly because the Rega goes through a very clever initialization procedure to optimize the laser/reader for each disk loaded in the player. You might this all Redbook CDs are pretty much alike in terms of physical characteristis, but Rega says disc-to-disc variances are in fact larger than most listeners suppose. By doing precise, disk-by-disk optimization, the player is said to read discs much more accurately, with audible benefits.
The Rega also features a very large RAM buffer, which ensures that the player has adequate time to do proper data error correction (according to Rega, not all players do).
