What are some of the best bookshelf speaker systems for use in a moderately sized family room with a 40" flat screen TV?

One of my favorite bookshelf speakers under $1000 is the B&W 685 at $650 per pair. The CM1 at $1000 has a better midrange and a more refined presentation (particularly in the treble), but is not as dynamic.
