In Playback digital magazine:

Includes the Onkyo TX-SR-705, which is a lower-priced version of the receivers that just received a Golden Ear award from Tony Cordesman in The Absolute Sound.

I bought an Onkyo 705 based on the review in Playback, and its listing of recommended components. I have not been able to get the video upconversion from composite or component inputs to the HDMI output working. I sent the unit to an authorized repair facility, which complained to me about the response and support that they were getting from Onkyo. We got the receiver back a month later, and not only does the video upconversion still not work, but now we can't get any audio through the receiver's speaker outputs or through the tv speakers. I am having difficulty getting Onkyo to respond.
Has anyone else had the same or similar difficulties? Any suggestions?

Bob

I haven't had any problems with Onkyo AVRs. As for the new problem of not getting any audio after the unit was returned from the service shop, try looking at the audio-input assignments in the set-up menu. The service technician might have changed the assignment for testing.

Thanks for your response.
I had reset the unit back to factory settings before trying to set it up, and carefully set up the inputs, HMDI output, etc.
I finally spoke with Onkyo service, who asked that I send the unit to another service center. I'll try that and see what comes of it. Will post an update if I learn anything interesting.
