I have recently purchased the PrimaLuna Prologue 7's tube monoblocks ... I am very impressed, folks tube amps is where it is at. I am currently using my Rotel Receiver as a preamp. I am in the market for a new high end audio / video controller, but here is the catch ... I will like to use this preamp as a 2 channel preamp with the monoblocks (sound is off the utmost importance), as well as a preamp for a 5 channel solid state home theater amp. I know I should purchase a tube preamp (i.e. Metis by Rogue Audio). But there must be a solid state audio / video preamp with exceptional sound. If I had $7000 I will purchase the Conrad Johnson MET1 - Multi-channel Enhanced Triode Preamplifier. I am presently leaning towards the Mcintosh MC-45. The only drawback is I will have to purchase a new DVD player with a built-in decoder. Another possible issue “The MC-45 is analog (In my opinion analog is the only choice for music), but how will this accommodate our digital world 10 years from now? All suggestions are eagerly welcome.
Or should I just purchase a tube preamp (i.e. Metis for $995) and continue to use by Rotel Receiver RSX 965 for home theater. I always wanted to separate my components for better sound, if I buy an audio / video controller now, then in a year from now I can purchase a 5 channel amp???
