DEAR FELLOW MEMBERS,
IM A NEWBEE AND IM INTO VINTAGE AUDIO RESEARCH EQUIPMENT.
I WOULD LIKE TO ASK IF ANYONE HAD TRIED USING KT 88'S IN THEIR
AUDIO RESEARCH D79B.
I REMEMBER THAT MR JON VALIN USE TO HAVE ONE AND
MR HARRY PEARSON GAVE THEM A FAVORABLE RE-
VIEW DURING THE EARLY 80'S.
THANKS IN ADVANCE,
D79B
I used 6550s, and, buddy, that is one very fine amplifier you've got.
DEAR MR. VALIN,
THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY. I ENJOY READING YOUR REVIEWS SINCE YOUR EARLY DAYS W/ TAS DURING THE EARLY 90'S AND WHEN YOU
W/ MR WAYNE GARCIA STARTED THE MAGAZINE FI. I WONDER WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THAT MAGAZINE.
THANKS,
D79B
Wonder no more...Fi went under after a 4 year run, having published many wonderful articles by Gary Giddins, Francis Davis, Will Friedwald, Tim Page, Allan Kozinn, Terry Teachout, Robert Palmer (whose last piece we had the honor of publishing), and many, many others. Ir was a very fine magazine in my not unbiased opinion, but (in spite of the considerable largesse of publishers Jerry Gladstein and Larry Kay and a great deal of good will and support from the industry) we simply didn't have the money to stay afloat. After Fi folded, I came back to TAS along with Robert Harley (at HP's kind invitation and with CEO Tom Martin's blessings). And here we still are, ten years after.

FI was the best..................that's where i got hooked on your style...........YOU ! WP ! CP! & Sam are my favorite reviewers
Thank you, zead.
DEAR MR. VALIN,
I AGREE W/ ZEAD THATS ITS ONE OF THE BEST HI FI MAGAZINE. IT WAS A NICE GESTURE FROM MR PEARSON TO INVITE YOU GUYS BACK
TO TAS. I REMEMBER DURING THAT PERIOD TAS WAS ALSO HAVING DIFFICULTY AND YOU INVITED MR PEARSON TO REVIEW FOR FI.A LOT
OF GOOD REVIEWERS WROTE FOR FI. MOST OF THE REVIEWERS WERE FORMERLY FROM STEREOPHILE AND TAS. THATS WHY FOR ME
YOU GET OPINIONS FROM BOTH SIDES OF THE COIN.THANKS VERY MUCH FOR THOSE 4 YEARS. I THINK I HAVE KEPT ALMOST ALL OF
THOSE FI MAGAZINES AS REFERENCE FOR MY PURCHASE OF FUTURE CLASSIC HI FI EQUIPMENT.
THANKS FOR YOUR TIME,
D79B
And thank you, D79B, for the fond trip down Memory Lane.
DEAR MR. VALIN,
YOUR WELCOME.
