Audio Note Preamp matching with solid state amp

I am considering upgrading my current tube integrated with a tube pre and solid state power amp. I have tried an Audio Note M2 Balanced with a simaudio W5.3 and found the combo very good with the exception that there is incredible volume sensitivity, eg. I can go from 0 to 11 within a 1/4 inch turn of the volume knob. Apparently there is no impedance mismatch, and I am trying to find out from Simaudio if there is anything I can do about the gain. Has anyone else experienced issues matching Audio Note preamps with solid state?  Any suggestions on a good combination if this one doesnt work out? Thanks.
