To all forum members:
We had a wonderful event in Colorado this past Saturday evening, for members of the Colorado Audio Society.
At the event the attendees were given an opportunity to hear the newest speaker from YG Acoustics, the Carmel (we are the exclusive YG Acoustics dealer in Colorado). The new Carmel sells for $18,000. During the event we were also given the opportunity to compare the Carmel to a very highly regarded speaker that sells for $27,000, the Magico V3.
It was obvious that both speakers were of very high quality and both sounded very good. For the comparison the two speakers were moved individually into an identical location in the room so as to give a fair and optimized response with regard to room acoustics. All connection methods were also identical.
After the comparison the attendees were allowed to cast their votes and give comments resulting from their experience. Of the 16 votes that were cast, 15 stated that they preferred the YG Acoustics Carmel over the other speaker, and 1 participant liked both speakers equally well. A variety of comments were given with regard to the event and in regards to compliments offered for the speakers. All in all a very instructive and enjoyable event.
For any of you that missed the event I would love to speak with you about it and provide you with the opportunity to give us a visit and enjoy the comparison as well. Just give us a call.
Thanks,
Darrin O'neill

The above isn't SPAM?
I'd call it spam if the store owner didn't identify himself. The op is fine with me.
No, not SPAM.
No mention of UGGs or DVD protection-cracking software. :)

Not spam, but if that is not "self-promotion" what is? The exact same post has already been removed from audioasylum.
I attended the event myself, and have to say that I thought that it was run quite well. There were no attempts to sell the speakers, there was not any mudslinging towards Magico, it was all very professionally presented. They started by telling how they would do the comparison, informing all present of why they would set the speakers in a particular location, also stating how those positions were not prime for either speakers as the room was more suited for the Anat and Kipod models. They also spoke about room treatment that was still not finished, thus making the room more lively and with more echo than is preferred. They even explained why they would play the tracks in the order they did, and guests were allowed to play their own music in a back to back comparison as well. Not once did they request anyone to publicly state their opinion on which speaker was better, and when such opinions were offered, they humbly thanked the person for their kind words. It was a very good opportunity for a person who would otherwise be unable to afford both speakers to get to hear a direct and fair comparison. This would be a great kind of opportunity for all kinds of equipment, and it was nice to be invited.
Yes, I have heard the YG speakers sound dry, I have also heard them sound boomy and undefined, but by all means, speakers are not the only part of a system, and I have heard them sound amazing too. So, I do own a pair of the Kipods. Are there ways to make them better? I'm sure, I have thought about the drivers before. I think there are always possibilities to make anything better. This is a very subjective realm though, and everyone will have different taste because everyone's ears respond slightly different. Many people have ears that do not have flat frequency response, nor equal from ear to ear. That is why there are so many manufacturers in the hi-fi audio realm. It was nice to be able to get a chance to hear two great companies next to each other in a fair environment, and with no pressure to buy. I hope and encourage many others to take advantage of any opportunity to visit an event like that. Even if neither of the companies are of interest, it will always be an opportunity to learn and be exposed to a different 'culture', as it were. And for that, I am grateful to YG for providing me with that chance. Just my opinion.

I was also at the event and enjoyed it very much because it was not what you would consider a typical sales event. To be upfront I own a pair of kipod main modules speakers myself, which is how I came to be invited to the event. The organizers were very good about explaining how the comparison would be done, their methodology for doing the comparison the way they did and their reasons for doing a comparison at all. There were at no time any negative comments about the V3 and they fully acknowledged it was a well made and well reviewed speaker, which was one of the reasons they used that speaker for the comparison. The main comments they made abour their own speaker was in expressing pride in what they were able to create and still reach the price point they were aiming for. At no time was I approached about any interest in purchasing and I did not see anyone else that was. When the demo was done I filled out a short, anonymous questioner and that was it. The only thing that any employee asked me is if I had a good time, and I did. I went to the demo because there are no magico dealers in my area and I wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to hear the V3's. As for the sound, while the V3's sounded very good and went deeper than the YG's, I preferred the sound of the YG's. That's my opinion and that's all this hobby is anyway, picking components that you enjoy the sound of.
One other thing, there were only a few people in the entire group that were owners of YG speakers, and I talked to some people that had only heard the YG's at shows and said they were not impressed by them. I can honestly say that they did not stack the deck by picking an audience that was pro YG.
I can only assume that the new Carmel must be much better than the Kipod since it compared poorly against both the V3 and the Mini in my experience.
So far we've heard from two attendees at the 'demonstration' and the organiser of the 'demonstation' all three of whom own or sell Kipods and maintain that there was no 'stacking' of the show with YG afficianados or apologists?
Sorry, I don't buy it. Any Magico owners present?
Also no mention of the amplifiers used for both sets of speakers? I'll hazard a guess that they well suited the YGs and not the Magicos?
All speakers deserve to be heard by those thinking of purchasing, but 'demonstrations' like this are easy to 'concoct'?
HALCRO,
