Are there good 2-channel pre-amps with digital inputs?

This may be an ignorant question. If so I beg your indulgence. I have a good two-channel system in the den with one component( Yamaha music server) that has weak DAC's. The sound of the server is reported quite good when using a receiver's dacs through a digital connection but the sound leaves something to be desired when connected through the rca analog connections. Are two-channel pre-amps manufactured that have their own high-quality dac's that can be used via an optical connection for otherwise excellent components. It appears that enthusiasts with excellent two-channel systems utilize separate cd transports and DAC's. Is this the only way of ensuring good sound through rca analog inputs?

I do not recall seeing any threads that addressed this.

I to have been looking for a Digital-in pre amp. So far, the only thing that I find are the pricy pre/pro units. Plus this seems to be over kill for just two channel stereo.

The other option would be to purchase an external DAC, prices vary.

There is one more option to play computer media files, it's the Slim Devices Squeezebox. It does have Digital-outs but it has a very good analog(dac) out.
