ARC Ref 110 vs. HD220

TXGiant -- Sun, 02/17/2008 - 22:33

Since both of these amplifiers are in the same price range, how do they compare side by side? I know the HD is a hybrid and the 110 a full tube amp.
My concern with the 110 would be its output capabilities- but the reviews have been excellent (still awaiting RH's pending review). There has been little to no published reviews on the HD220 but I am intrigued with the amp's possibilities.
I have an LS26 and a CD3 MKII. I will be purchasing Vandersteen Quatros (woods) in the near future. Does anyone have an opinion- preferably educated!- on how the two amps compare and which may be better for my application?

Thanks, in advance.

I had Reference 110+ Reference 3 and felt it didn't control very well my W/P 8, especialy in the bass region.
The HD220 is more dynamic and woun't limit you in the future with other speakers.

My experience with the 110 has been limited, but I must agree with tomertsin that it doesn't have a lot of control in the bass. I used it with the Magico V3 and Revel Salon2, but have not yet driven the Wilson X-2 with it.
