i have been researching for over a month. i am building a new pc and i wanted to get a some passive speakers as i love listening to music. i still have 2 kids at home so my budget isn't really high. i am no "AUDIOPHILE" per se, but i love crystal clear music and enjoy listening to the subtleties of a song. ie: hearing symbols as meant to be heard, hearing guitar rifts with lingering tones unclipped, basically i enjoy fullness in my music. clarity. i started out wanting to find the best "computer speakers" i could find. then after so much research, i became interested in passive speakers with an amp. which led me to speaker research and it went on and on and on! anyway, i decided that i'm going to build a system that i can add to as i can afford to. i wish to start with an amp/receiver. and build from there. i am still fuzzy on which is better if at all? i looked at the HK 3490, which gets great reviews, having 120 watts x2 w/digital inputs. and i am researching the marantz pm5004, azur 550a, and nad 315beee. the integrateds have around 40 watts x2 and are analog. are they worse? better? same? what does the wattage discrepancy mean? this where i get confused. will the integrateds last longer? are the better? do they sound better? and finally, sorry to be so long winded, i like what i have seen of the Paradigm studio 10's as speakers. not sure if my budget will afford them atm so i might start with the atoms and upgrade later. i am so new to hifi. ignorant. i will never spend 10k on an audio system. but i would like a decent stereo to sit and relax to. any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated. i know i didnt give a budget per se, because i am not rich, rofl. as i said earlier, i want to build a nice entry level hifi system. i mentioned my pc because i basically spend a lot of my free time there. the integrateds i have name are in the budget i wish to stick to. might be willing to go a little higher to avoid the "i wish i would have gotten this" issue later on. thank you so much. i hope i got out what i wanted and it makes sense to ya. oh, before i forget do certain speakers sound better with certain amps? i read alot about b&w matching well with rotel.
