Amp-speaker match for Theil 3.6?

 I know I need lots of power, lots of current, and lots of control.  I know I don't need grain, hash, noise, or "pro-quality sound-reinforcement gear."  I also have a total budget limited to about $1,000 for the time being.
 
Options - Used preamp/power amp combo?  Tube preamp with solid-state power?  Discount new integrated?  How low can I go on the audio food chain and still have sweet sound?  
 
I'm less interested in playing loudly than in having a synergistic match.  I don't have a huge room.  My source (for better or worse) will be streaming CD-quality audio over an Apple Airport Express.
