I need an inexpensive ( http://nadelectronics.com/products/dvd-players/L54-DVD-Receiver ) all in one system for my9 year old daughters room. It doesn't need to be "high end" but I'd like to get something that will let her learn about music that is reproduced fairly accurately. DVD, amp, CD, ipod dock, tuner. The NAD L54 fits the bill (if I add an ipod dock and speakers).
The Cambridge Soundworks ( http://www.cambridgesoundworks.com/store/category.cgi?category=ipod_solutions&item=53CW0320AA000 ) is another option. Kinda like a big boombox.
Nad Viso 2? http://nadelectronics.com/products/av-receivers/VISO-TWO-DVD/CD-Receiver
The NAD L54 does sound pretty good, as does the VISO TWO. The latter has a feature set that is more up-to-date and therefore may fit the bill a bit better. Major differences between the two:
- HDMI output for VISO (for DVD only, no conversion from analogue video sources, no OSD).
- DVD upscaling to 1080i
- Port for iPod (IPD-2); this fully integrates iPod into system with system; iPod menu visible on OSD and display, controllable from VISO remote handset. You mention iPod connectivity with L54, but other than a spare line input there's no specific iPod connectivity
- Port for (I assume) a XM radio mudule. I say assume, as in Europe (where I am) NAD offers a DAB radio module which also integrates fully with receiver, as if it were built-in. Would be logical if there was an XM module for US.
- Marginally more power. As mentioned, the L54 doesn't really dissapoint here either. Both amps can handle low impedances and drive moderately difficult speakers to good effect; just don't choose very inefficient ones.
Cheers.
