I HAVE A DENON AVR 3808 RECEIVER WHICH I AM VERY HAPPY WITH. IT IS HOOKED UP WITH A 7.1 CONFIGURATION.
MY QUESTION IS WHEN I'M WATCHING/LISTENING TO JUST ABOUT ANY DOLBY OR DTS MOVIE FROM EITHER MY DIRECT TV SATELLITE OR OPPO DVD PLAYER; IF FOR INSTANCE A HELICOPTER COMES FROM BEHIND, THE SOUND FIRST COMES FROM THE REAR CHANNELS THEN TO THE SURROUNDS AND ON TO THE FRONT.
HOW IS THE RECEIVER DECODING 7.1 FROM A 5.1 SOURCE?

AVRs have algorithms that create surround-back information from the surround channels in a 5.1-channel source.
