1.4 Format HDMI Cables. Will they work with older equipment?

ErikJackson -- Thu, 06/24/2010 - 22:58

I am seeing 1.4 format HDMI cabes now.  I am not sure if I should get them.

Does anyone know if these will work with 1.3 format equipment? I guess I am trying to figure out if they will play down?

Any input is appreciated.

1.4 Question

Hi Erik,
I'm sure you can look up on the net re the 1.4 HDMI, as with all HDMI there is a specification and since the 1.3 a/b now there is the 1.4. Athough is not offical yet but the change is coming. However, pending on your use at the moment, the new cable will have no problem playing with older equipments. Just the newer cable is subject to higher bandwith and speed and will be gearing up for internet. Most in stores are 1.5 M (about 6') cables. For cable length of 3 meter (about 10') you will not find much different (pending on equipment of course!) unless the cable is badly made.  Anything longer you will want to use better manufactures and or brands as you will see the different. Manufacture are require to test the cables to conform to spec before shipping and most 1.3 a/b are tested up to 18 Meter (60') for 1080P signal. The 1.4 will be higher and longer.  Hope my 2 cents worth helps.

Right on, I, too, was pondering the same. Does the 1.4 downgrade back to 1.3,1.2,1.1 status?
