1080P on demand from Direct-TV

Here's an update to a depressing attempt to secure 1080P on-demand downloads from Direct TV. Most folks I've spoken to don't even know this is available. That's right, its here right now! But here's the catch. First, I tried to buy a Blu-Ray player that was equipped for wireless because some idiot at Best Buy told me I would be able to get 1080P downloads over Netflix. Totally wrong. There is only a limited amount of HD content available for download which is 1080i. Most of it is satndard DVD at 480p. Then, I was thrilled when I saw that Direct TV offered 1080P downloads. All you need, according the ad, is the right receiver! I had a Direct HD-DVR that qualified. Yet when I went to configure it to my 1080P-capable 70" Sony TV, I received a screen message saying the output device was not compatible with my TV. Huh? I have a 1080P TV and a 1080P Direct TV DVR. Why wasn't it working? It took a call to Direct TV's tech support to learn the answer. It turns out that the Direct TV 1080P content that is available for on-demand is 1080P-24. My TV, however, can only accept 1080P-60. In other words, all 1080P is not the same and I'm SOL unless I buy a new TV. Oh well, by that time I'm sure there will be another format that the industry will make sure is not compatible with some other piece of equipment I own by then....
