Consumer Electronics Show 2007

CES 2007

Highlights from Day 2

And you thought we were just going to cover TVs. We're still all about enjoying your favorite video, but these days that thought goes way beyond broadcast, cable, and the DVD format wars. The Moxi all-in-one digital video player offers a killer app that makes all your digital content - from broadcast to HDTV, music, and games - easily accessible thanks to a super-intuitive interface. You've got to see this thing in action, so we'll show you the video demo on Monday, Jan 15. Stay tuned.

We also see many signs of life from Sony, especially in their new Internet Video Link HD, which lets you take content from the Internet and put it right on your Bravia screen, without going through a PC. Okay, so YouTube isn't ready for high-def, but as more Internet giants like AOL and Yahoo acquire and push video, you'll have more to choose from - all displayed on a screen meant for video, your TV.

The high-end audio show kicked off today with a pep rally for high-resolution digital audio, complete with a demo comparing a typical iTunes download against the same version from MusicGiants, an online service that offers full-length albums at 96kHz/24-bit. The jam-packed room was shocked by the difference in sound quality. For those of us who still think quality matters, the press conference can be considered a significant win in the fight against junk sound.
