Here's an excerpt from an interview with Michael Jaworek, who's the booker for the Birchmere, a famous Washington D.C. area music venue. The interview was done by Larry Le Blanc. Here's a link to the entire interview:

I think this quote sums up the problems with live pop concert pricing...
"The concert industry) is a single source supply. If you are poor, you can eat poor because there are all sorts of (cheaper) food. If you are poor and need a car or transportation, you can buy a junker or you can take public transportation. Even with baseball, you can see minor league baseball. But if you want to see Bryan Adams, there's only one Bryan Adams.
And being (a single source supply industry) is why many of these issues are so emotionally charged. That (exclusivity) colors dealing with issues in a more objective way."

Need some help with my Dunlavy SC IVs. How far to the wall behind? From side walls? How far apart? And to the seating position. I thought I had this all figured out until you corrected me on the 10 ft. spacing between them. Thanks, Jack D II

Since we've decided to go off topic a wee bit - that spacing is ten feet from speaker to ear for a proper square wave response - not speaker to speaker...and please don't take the following refocusing of this thread as any reflection on your question.
Please feel free to contact me off-line if you want to discuss Dunlavy set up.
Now to get back on topic - SINGLE SOURCE SUPPLY.
SIngle source supply also affects High End Audio...Only a Magico or a Wilson IS a Magico or a Wilson...

I'm not sure this kind of analogy holds or the thinking behind the original quote is sound. After all, only a Big Mac is a Big Mac etc...
I think it's all about offer and demand and what the market can bear. Bryan Adams, or anyone else, can eventually price himself out of the market. People are willing to pay exhorbitant fees for concerts, hifi, art, a meal, bottle of wine etc .. because they think it's worth it AND they can afford it. As long as artists (or anyone producing anything) have enough people to pay whatever they demand, then the pricing will go accordingly. It has nothing to do with single source supply. That would be the case if Magico was the only loudspeaker manufacturer on the planet, or Bryan Adams the only singer that performs live. Then, even I who has a profound dislike to Bryan Adams' music, might get myself to one of his concerts just to experience music live.
