The artist formerly know as The Sharper Image, a.k.a. Richard Thalheimer, is back with a web site called RichardSolo.com. One of his first products is a battery powered charger for the iPhone and iPod. At $70, the RichardSolo 1800 is a bit pricey, but it works. It will fully charge an iPhone (our test bed). It also has a built-in LED flashlight and laser pointer (for the presentation you're flying to).

This product will make little sense to those of you who don't regularly fly Seattle-Sydney or Houston-London (or forget to charge your phone periodically and need an emergency backup). But if you do, and you love listening to all 32Gb of tunes you have in your library (Apple lossless, natch), you'll find this a worthwhile accessory. It is about 3/4 the size of an iPhone and plugs into the docking port at the base of the phone (or iPod). The RichardSolo 1800 uses Lithium Polymer batteries to keep its profile slim, and it recharges using standard USB chargers and cables (supplied, but you can use the cable with the Apple charger if you like).
Available from richardsolo.com or amazon.com.

I'd much rather use the Power Slider case for the iPhone by Incase. Yes, it's $30 more, but it's form-fitting and only makes the iPhone about twice as thick. Besides, anyone who travels a lot has their laptop accessible at all times, and you could simply jack your iPhone/iPod into it for power.
