McIntosh displayed a cornucopia of new products this year, but the one that caught my eye and interest (and which I’ll soon be reviewing) is the new C50 stereo preamplifier ($6500), a unit of astonishing sophistication and flexibility. An upgrade, though in a fact a complete rethinking, of the C46 that was my reference for several years, the C50 offers six line level analog inputs, two phono inputs for both MM and MC (with selectable loading), and five digital inputs, including USB, coax, and optical. There is also an eight band equalizer (of very usefully chosen center frequencies), and much, much, much more, and sporting Mac’s signature blue front panel meters. I can’t wait for the review sample to arrive. (The C48 ($4500) eschews the meters and some of the flexibility and inputs for what is essentially identical performance.)

What D/A are they using?
Thanks.
Beautiful photo, Paul. It looks good enough to eat. I look forward to the review. My first serious stuff (after my Dynakits) was Mc 2100, then Mc 2105, both with a C26 pre, but we don't talk about that one. There will always be a soft spot in my heart for all things Mc.
Hi Paul;
Apart from their new C48 and C50 preamps, what other new 2011 products did McIntosh introduce at CES?
There's a new multi-digital play that I think Neil Gader is going to review, and a DSP built around Lyndorf's RoomPerfect system. and maybe a new Mac tuner. And of course there are new high-powered amps that match up to the new preamps. And for the man who has everything, a McIntosh clock! Cross my heart, it's true, and it's way cool looking. I'll post a picture of it.
