First Look: Chordette Gem Wireless Bluetooth Dock/USB DAC

Posted by: Chris Martens at 7:07 pm, September 1st, 2009

All in all I think the Chordette Gem holds real promise both for audiophiles whose systems are computer based and for confirmed iPod/iPhone addicts. I'll be interested to see (and hear) how the Gem performs after I've given it the requisite two weeks of initial burn-in. Stay tuned for my upcoming review, which will appear in Playback 24.

In the interim, feel free to submit any questions you may have on the Gem and I'll do my best to answer them.

I've heard the Chordette today and it is a brilliant piece of gear.
Unrelated to the Chordette itself, but inspired from it, would you know of a piece of equipment that wuold do the Bluetooth receiving/converting into digital for inputting into a DAC? ie a Chordette without the DAC section. The reason is that it would be a shame to use the Chordette's DAC section for those with a megabuck DAC that can accept inputs from various sources,

Thank you for the detailed and well written review. It is true that, like all digital devices, the Chordette Gem benefits a lot from 300-500 hours break in. It also has one important upgrade potential which nobody mentions: because its power supply is 12V DC (and detachable) you may connect a car (or motorbike) 12V battery. This is an incredible upgrade: more resolution, bigger and deeper stage, more air, ... you name it, it really becomes a top grade audiophile source! The battery only needs to be charged once a week.
Playing it with studio master FLAC files (24 bit - 88.2 kHz), takes its performance to a good SACD player level. Worth experimenting.
Looking forward to reading your next comments.

it' s also possible to have a further enormous upgrade on sound quality, using the bluetooth programm "bluesoleil" on your computer. It costs around USD 15.-, but it's worth of it in any case. With this programm, the wireless connection sounds better then via USB connection for me.

The bluetooth kit is looking very wonderful dude. I like it. As per my view bluetooth wireless connection is too good than any USB connection. I have used usb connection and now i have been bored to use it. So I use bluetooth wireless connection. I like it very much.
Well thanks for sharing such nice information here. It is nice to be a part of this site. I like this site and will visit this site in future.

Shame it's ony for Music (albeit good qulity wireless music listening)
Normally when I'm listening to music I prefer to be tethered to the output
Be sweet it if also had a DSP that decodes dolby formats (& the like) & remixes them for stereo-out using HRTF (or better).
So overdue for someone to hurry & do this!

For high-end audio equipment, careful selection of resistance is to avoid or reduce noise or distortion of the signal channel one of the most effective method. This article describes the use of existing technology to produce the resistance of resistor noise generated, and each introduced by a typical amount of noise resistance.

I prefer this more than that stoopid sleek audio wireless adapter.

I've no doubt the analogue-out will be better plus you can use your own bloody headhpnes instead of being "locked-in" to theirs!
Not sure if the wireliess link would be as stable/good though...

I'd be in audio nirvana ;-) Tis sooo overdue for someone to do this!
