CES 2009 Follow-Up: NuForce Going Mobile? Yes.

Posted by: Chris Martens at 2:02 pm, February 6th, 2009

My experience with NuForce amps of all sizes is that they need some “run-in” time before optimal sound unfolds, so I won’t comment on the Icon Mobile’s sound until later on, when I review the unit in Playback. But for now, let me leave you with this thought: it seems to me the Icon Mobile offers a ton of functionality for $99. Best buddies take note: the Icon Mobile can drive two sets of headphones/earbuds simultaneously. A handy feature, no?

Hey Chris:
First, really like your reviews and writing style!
I wrote to NuForce last week to get their opinion on whether their Icon Mobile would be a good portable amp for my Sennheiser HD650s but as of today, I haven't heard back. Do you have an opinion? I currently have a PA2V2 and like it a lot but have nothing to compare it to. Would this be a noticeable upgrade? Should I consider something else?  Any feedback would be appreciated.
While we're at it, do you have an opinion about the Creek OBH-11? I'm using it as my stationary model and it seems to be doing a good job with the HD650s but again, I'm a neophyte and just want "good"sound at a modest investment, (at 59 years and with a lot of rock and roll later, I'm not sure these old ears can differentiate most audio nuances). I do like  jazz and classical but one version of Bolero pretty much sounds the same as the next, (is Dutoit's version that much better than the Boston Symphony Orchestra???).  Anyway, as a reference, I can hear the flautist taking breaths on Chicago's "Color My World" so the hearing isn't completely gone. Sorry it all this is TMI. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
Regards
Jay
