According to business technology Web site informationweek.com, Western Digital is unveiling its TV Media Player, a device that allows users to play content stored on a USB drive on their HDTVs.
The report continues by saying that the device connects to a TV via HDMI; two USB drives can connect to the device simultaneously. The player contains ArcSoft Media Converter 2.5 software, which converts files—video, music, and photos—to a format that the player can read. Western Digital’s Web site (westerndigital.com) indicates that the device can play back material at up to 1080p resolution.
The report goes on to say that the player’s on-screen menu organizes content by media type, regardless of its location on the user’s external USB drive. A remote control is included.
The report adds that the device is compatible with Western Digital’s USB drives and third party drives.
