According to a press release, Samsung Electronics is introducing the P3, a new touchscreen portable multimedia player available in 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB versions and packed with ingenious features.
The release continues by saying that the P3, a CES innovations 2009 Design and Engineering Award honoree, features a 3-inch WQVGA TFT-LCD screen that allows users to watch videos and view photos at a 16:9 aspect ratio. The P3 uses an upgraded version of Samsung’s EmoTure touch interface with haptic (that is, tactile) feedback. Command gestures—swiping a finger across the screen or holding down a digital “button”—causes the P3 to react with a variety of physical sensations (much like those experienced with video game controllers). The P3 also has a Hot Touch Key located below the screen that allows users to jump to favorite music features without having to go through multiple menus.
The release says that the P3 features DNSe 3.0 sound enhancement technology and even includes integrated speakers so users can share their music with their friends (or drive their fellow bus/airplane passengers crazy). In addition, the player has a voice recorder, FM radio, and a storage drive. When used with Bluetooth-enabled phones, users can answer calls with the player by talking through the built-in microphone.
The sleek looking P3 is offered with either a matte black or silver metal casing. The player will be available in the first half of the year. The price is unavailable at press time.
