According to a press release, Paradigm Electronics is introducing the Reference SUB 12 and SUB 15, the successors to the acclaimed Servo-15 subwoofer. The subwoofers benefit from “the company’s years of research into the mechanics of producing louder, lower-frequency, lower-distortion bass.” Additionally, the Subwoofers are remarkably small given their high output.
The release continues by saying that the SUB15 and SUB 12, which feature 15” and 12” drivers respectively, have higher output ceilings than their predecessors did owing to unique amplifier/driver configurations. Both drive units feature mineral-filled, co-polymer polypropylene cones with Resonance Control Ribs and multi-layer polyurethane-composite elliptical-shaped surrounds. The drivers have dual voice coils that incorporate 3” high-temperature aluminum voice coils and dual oversized spiders and 35lb. magnet assemblies.
The release says that the subwoofers have dual Class-D amplifiers that together deliver 3,400 watts dynamic peak power and 1,700 watts RMS. Each amplifier is attached to the side of a “T”-shaped aluminum extrusion within the subwoofer enclosure. This configuration aids in heat dissipation and thus overall performance. The amps feature switched mode power supplies, high-powered transformers, MOSFET transistors, and other high-quality internal components.
The release says that the subwoofers have RCA and Balanced XLR low-level inputs, and include the following controls: auto on/off and trigger on/off, subwoofer cut-off with bypass option, level, and phase alignment. Additionally, the subwoofers have USB ports to allow for future upgrades as well as the use of Paradigm’s Perfect Bass Kit (PBK-1), which optimizes subwoofer EQ settings to compensate for the acoustics of users’s rooms.
