Irvine, CA-based HDTV manufacturer VIZIO has announced its next-generation range of XVT-series LCD HDTVs. In simple terms, the new models fall in roughly four groups, as sketched below:
Slim Line 1080p, 120Hz models with conventional fluorescent backlighting.
Larger 1080p, 120Hz models with conventional fluorescent backlighting.
Larger 1080p, 240Hz models with TruLED backlighting with Smart Dimming.
Larger 1080p, 240Hz models with TruLED backlighting with Smart Dimming, and full compatible with VIZIO Internet Apps (or VIA, for short).

Without a doubt the models in the latter group, above, represent the “crown jewels” in VIZIO’s product lineup. Prototypes of the 55” model were previewed at the 2009 CES Expo and their image quality was impressive indeed; specifically, they exhibited significantly deeper blacks and better rendering of shadow details that VIZIO’s already excellent LCD TVs featuring conventional fluorescent backlighting.
All new XVT sets incorporate USB video inputs and features SRS TruSurround HD and SRS TruVolume audio technologies. SRS TruSurround technology is said to enhance “clarity and produces surround sound without external speakers,” while SRS TruVolume technology promises to eliminate “annoying volume fluctuations when switching channels or during commercial breaks.” The top XVT models offer what VIZIO terms a “Mega Dynamic Contrast Ratio™ of up to 2,000,000:1 that makes for incredible black levels and almost three-dimensional imagery.”
