SI’s 92-Inch Black Diamond is Utilized for a “Disney Themed” Bedroom for a Family in Need in Beavercreek, Ohio, Transforming it into a Home Theater Experience

Austin, Texas, Nov. 16, 2009 – Screen Innovations (www.screeninnovations.com) is proud to announce that it has donated a 92-inch Black Diamond projector screen for the recently aired November 8 episode of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. The screen was installed by Hanson Audio Video, LLC of Kettering, Ohio.

“We are so thankful that companies such as Screen Innovations have continued to help us help deserving families,” says Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Senior Producer Diane Korman. “The Screen Innovations product was absolutely perfect for this extreme home, and this project was a perfect fit for our companies to join forces once again.”

According to ABC and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, the Terpenning family of Beavercreek, Ohio has overcome all kinds of odds. James Terpenning, stricken with polio as an infant, is a decorated athlete with two gold medals from the Paralympics. He’s also a father of four and big brother to Joe, who suffers from Cerebral Palsy. The Terpenning home is cramped for the family of seven. James and Joe are limited by the challenges of the house. Safety is the biggest concern for the family. James puts forward his best effort to take care of his children but always fears the worst when trying to take his youngest son Joshua out of his crib. Like every father, James wants his children to be safe. Country music star Kellie Pickler and her younger brother, Eric, joined the EMHE team to help out the Terpenning family.

As part of the project, the EMHE team builds brother Joe’s room in a much beloved “Disney theme”, in which the Screen Innovations Black Diamond projector screen, accompanied by a JVC DLAHD projector, was installed so Joe can watch his favorite Disney movies in a home theater style environment.

“We were just blown away by what Extreme Makeover, the Air Force, and our community did for us,” said James Terpenning, who, since being saved by the Air Force in his early childhood, has done everything he can to repay his country and the Air Force, including representing his country in the Paralympics and inspiring many returning veterans who may feel confined by a wheelchair. “My brother Joe deserves nothing but the best, and this new wheelchair-accessible house, especially his new room, is just incredible. He absolutely loves his new home theater. It is amazing.”

Troy Hanson, owner of Hanson AV, explained once they were contacted by the builder, they chose the SI Black Diamond because of the specific needs of the bedroom and the overall system requirements. “We chose the Black Diamond for a number of reasons, but specifically because it matched so well with the JVC projector and also because of the ambient light restrictions in the room for which it was being installed. The Black Diamond enhances projector performance by creating the ultimate contrast and color accuracy in both dark and bright environments. The final result was exactly what we were hoping for. This project was definitely for a good cause because the family was well deserving based on the situation. It was great for the community, as well.”
