Indianapolis, IN-based Klipsch Group announced the Image S2m in-ear headset ($59.99) whose single-button in-line microphone, says Klipsch, enables the S2m to accommodate “devices with a 3.5mm headphone jack.” The release of the S2m follows closely after the recent introduction of the Image S4i—an in-ear headset that features a distinctive three-button control system targeted specifically toward Apple iPhone owners.
According to a company press release, Klipsch claims the S2m “delivers strikingly realistic sound through the use of a customized 5.8 mm moving coil driver in each ear piece.” Expanding on this statement, Klipsch’s Don Inmon, director of marketing and product development for personal audio, says the S2m’s “dig deep into the musical spectrum with a level of dynamic detail that many loudspeakers can’t produce.” For those who want the sound quality of the S2m but do not require the in-line microphone feature, Klipsch will offer a simplified, no-mic version called the S2, priced at $49.99.
Like all Klipsch in-ear headphones and headsets, the S2m and S2 use the firm’s proprietary oval-shaped ear tips, which are said to more closely “fit the contours of the of the ear canals” than traditional round eartips do. Part of the benefit of the oval eartips involves comfort, but another aspect involves the ease with which they form a good seal in the ear canal, which is essential to achieving optimal sound while blocking out external sources of noise.
The Klipsch press release offers the following summary of the benefits of the S2m.
