NAD Ships New Preamp/Power Amp Duo

Sharon, MA-based NAD Electronics, well known for designing and marketing reference-level products at affordable prices, recently announced shipment of its newest preamp/power amp duo: the C 165BEE Stereo Preamplifier ($899 MSRP) and the C 275BEE Stereo Power Amplifier ($1,199 MSRP).

The C 165BEE was designed by NAD’s Director of Advanced Developments, Bjorn Erik Edvardsen, and includes new semiconductors and improved production techniques, such as use of surface mount devices (SMDS), according to a NAD press release, which notes that the design also includes an improved tone control circuit, revised PCB layout, high signal capacity Class A gain modules, all which combine to reduce distortion and noise.

The phono stage includes three position switches to “select resistance and capacitance levels to precisely match most popular Moving Coil and Moving Magnet (MC/MM) phono cartridges." Connections and controls include 6 line level inputs, a subwoofer output, a 12V trigger output, discrete On/Off codes, and NAD’s SR 8 full-function remote.

Those familiar with NAD’s Masters Series MC Amplifier will find many of the same refinements in the C 275BEE power amp, including the Edvardsen-designed Distortion Canceling Circuit and his BEE Clamp power supply.

The C 275BEE delivers 150W per channel at 4 and 8 ohms, and 250, 410, and 600W IHF dynamic power at 8, 4, and 2 ohms, respectively. You can also achieve 400W to two channels by bridging two C 275BEEs as a dual mono pair.

In a nod to all things green, these products were manufactured according to “stringent international standards” avoiding environmentally hazardous metals and producing standby power of less than 1W.

I clicked on NAD CD, but this is about Amp and Preamp instead.
