Musical Fidelity Unveils Limited Edition $30k Power Amp

According to a company press release, seven years after introducing its coveted kW Power Amplifier, English hi-fi manufacturer Musical Fidelity is introducing its successor, the Titan ($30,000), a dual-mono power amp capable of delivering 1,000 watts per channel. Musical Fidelity plans to build just 50 samples of the Titan and if history repeats itself with this new flagship model then the entire production run of Titans is likely to sell out quickly. For example, only 75 sets of the original kW Power Amplifiers were built, all of which were sold in just four months. If the idea of the Titan appeals to you, act fast if you want what will likely become a hi-fi classic.

The release says, “We [Musical Fidelity] have done our utmost to make the best amplifier we know how [to].” To that end, the Titan is fully balanced from beginning to end and delivers 1,000wpc into 8 Ohms, 2,000wpc into 4 Ohms, or just shy of 4,000wpc into 2 Ohms. The Titan is housed in two identical aluminum enclosures—one unit is dedicated to the power supply alone while the other unit houses amplification circuitry, as has long been standard design practice for Musical Fidelity’s top-tier products. This configuration ensures that there is no interaction between the PSU and the signal circuitry.

The release goes on to say that distortion is less than 0.001 percent from 10Hz–50kHz and around 1 percent at 100kHz. By achieving ultra-low distortion across a very wide bandwidth and an extremely low signal-to-noise ratio, the Titan is able to produce “an incredibly clean, sweet sound.” The release says that the Titan offers the sonic advantages of a Class A tube amp while offering superb dynamic capabilities thanks to its very high-powered solid state output stage. Furthermore, the Titan is able to deliver linear, low distortion response regardless of load.

The release adds that the Titan’s faceplate is a solid piece of billet aluminum and the heatsinks and top panel are made from custom extrusions.
