According to a company press release, renowned Lawrence, KS hi-fi manufacturer MartinLogan is introducing the Summit X, the latest evolution of the its top-end hybrid electrostatic loudspeaker, featuring innovations derived from MartinLogan’s award winning CLX full range electrostatic loudspeaker.
David Allen, senior vice president of design and product development says in the release, “Summit X is the first new MartinLogan speaker to benefit from many of the recent innovations derived from designing the 2008 international award winning CLX full range electrostatic loudspeaker. The sole purpose for redesigning our iconic Summit, the most advanced hybrid loudspeaker in the world, was to elevate its appeal and performance to contemporary levels of Martin Logan design and engineering technology.”
The release says that the Summit X incorporates a Controlled Dispersion PoweredForce woofer that provides a dispersion pattern at the crossover point mimicking that of a dipole transducer. By smoothing phasing at the crossover point, the speaker operates more like a full range electrostat while retaining the inherent advantages of dynamic drivers such as efficiency and dynamics. The active woofer features 25Hz and 50Hz level controls, enabling users to fine-tune output in the frequency range most commonly affected by room acoustics.
The release adds that the Summit X features a modular floor spike design that allows users to adjust the speaker’s rake by up to 12 degrees in order to optimize the speaker’s vertical dispersion and direct it towards the listening position. The speaker has a light on the rear control panel to aid in fine-tuning and features a ground effect light that subtly illuminates floor surfaces beneath the speaker to create a unique visual in darkened listening rooms.
Pricing: $13,995/pair base price. Custom finishes are available from MartinLogan’s Custom Shop.
