Marantz Showcases Home Theater and 2-Channel Audio at Karma Fest

Over the next couple of days at the Karma Fest in Livonia, MI (May 2 and 3), Marantz America is showcasing several “advanced” home entertainment products. At the heart of the Marantz home theater grouping on display will be the AV8003 networking preamp ($2,600) paired with two MM8003 power amplifiers ($2,400 each). Keep those calculators handy, because more high-quality, upper-priced gear is in the mix. Content, for example, will be played on the Marantz BD7003 Blu-Ray player ($550) and projected through the VP-11S2L front projector ($18,000) with no slouch for a lens, either—namely, the LN9103M motorized anamorphic lens ($10,000).

Fest goers will also be among the first to see a preview of the Marantz’s upcoming Blu-ray player, the UD9004 ($6,000). Think universal player (CD, SACD, DVD Audio and Video, and Blu-ray) and you will be on the right track (pun intended). Other features of the new player:
•    Profile 2.0
•    Dual HDMI outputs (user selectable for best audio and video transmission)
•    Internal decoding of Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD Master Audio, and 7.1 analog outputs
•    More

The UD9004 is scheduled for release this summer.

And for audio-maven Fest goers, Marantz is showing a flagship reference system, consisting of two MA-9S2 monaural power amps ($8,000 each) and an SC-7S2 preamp ($8,000), with content provided by the SA-7S1 SACD/CD Player ($7,000).

OK, have you tallied up your bill? Can you say “what recession”?

Am I the only person on the planet who listens to multi-channel  music? Having greatly enjoyed a large number of multi-channel SACDs and DVD-As over the years, I would never consider 2 channel stero as an alternative if multi-channel is available. Unfortunately Marantz's line of SACD players is2 channel only. Perhaps they will retrogress completely and support only mp3 or perhaps 78s.
